About Lynn:
Lynn Ervin is a Northern California-based psychotherapist who brings four decades of personal and professional growth and experience informed by her unique perspective as a mixed-race woman, musician, bodyworker, and educator. Lynn holds a BA in Psychology from San Francisco State University and a master’s degree in Social Work from San Jose State University.
Lynn’s work is grounded in the belief that when experiencing trauma (either your own or ancestral), and feeling overwhelmed by painful emotions, self-doubt, and anxiety, we often develop coping skills that don’t get to the root of, or resolve our symptoms, but instead, actually perpetuate and bury the issue. This keeps us stuck in the same inherited narrative, behavior, and patterns of family trauma, abuse, and addiction that prevent the healing needed to move forward in our lives with compassion.
Lynn’s approach is steeped in the study of Transgenerational Trauma, Attachment Theory, Family Systems, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Polyvagal Theory, and Nonviolent Communication. She weaves trauma-informed somatic approaches like EMDR, Internal Family Systems/Parts Work, and Family Constellations, while drawing on the wisdom of several indigenous culture’s earth-based traditions, including German psychologist Bert Hellinger’s Family Constellation work, which is an adaptation from the Zulu people of South Africa. Lynn is also a Mesa holder in the cross cultural Pachakuti Mesa Tradition Lineage of Don Oscar Miro Quesada, as well as a stick diviner and shrine keeper in the lineage of the Dagara people of West Africa.
Often, connections aren’t seen unless we look deeply into the symptom and the family history and ask the right questions. A skilled Family Facilitator can help you to connect the dots. Lynn understands how to help her clients move towards a felt sense of belonging and self-compassion by teaching them how to make sense of the trauma stored in their bodies and the origins of their suffering.
“It is very powerful and it gets to the root of the trauma, that could be ancestral.”
– Lynn
